Diploma Thesis
The Diploma Thesis constitutes an essential component and the culmination of the educational process at the NTUA School of Chemical Engineering. During the preparation of the Diploma Thesis, students are expected to integrate their knowledge, utilize their skills, and apply in practice what they have learned throughout their studies. They engage with the international scientific literature and understand/apply modern computational and measurement techniques. At the same time, students are given the opportunity to take individual initiatives, to work as members of a team within the research laboratory where the Diploma Thesis is conducted, and to become acquainted with the research process.
The Diploma Thesis corresponds to one of the courses designated by the School at the beginning of each semester, following an application submitted by the graduating student and final allocation by the School in November and March. The preparation of the Diploma Thesis requires at least one academic semester. The oral examination takes place in June, October, and February, after the final or resit examination periods, and provided that the student has successfully completed all courses prescribed by the standard Curriculum of all semesters.
In the context of Diploma Thesis preparation, the School of Chemical Engineering particularly encourages collaborations with research institutes and industries, as well as interdepartmental and interschool collaborations.
The completion of a Diploma Thesis within the framework of the ERASMUS program is also encouraged. In such cases, according to the School’s decision, the Diploma Thesis may be written in English.
The Diploma Thesis is carried out during the 10th and/or 9th semester.
It is completed individually by each student under the supervision of the faculty member who proposed the topic. The scope of the topics must allow for the Diploma Thesis to be completed within one academic semester of full-time student effort.
