Dr. Ioannis Sempos (Sebos) is a Chemical Engineer with more than 25 years of professional experience. He currently serves as a Teaching and Research Associate at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He is the scientific coordinator of the National Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollutant Emission Inventory System of Greece. In addition, he serves as a Lead Reviewer for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and represents Greece in meetings of the European Union and the United Nations on matters related to climate change and air emissions.
He is also the scientific coordinator of NTUA projects focused on air quality monitoring and assessment, in collaboration with the Piraeus Port Authority and Hellenic Petroleum. Currently, he serves as scientific coordinator of the LIFE24-GIC-EL-LIFE LULUCF ATLAS project (Facing key challenges in greenhouse gas accounting in the land use and forestry sector, 2026–2030). Since January 2019, he has been principal investigator in the LIFE Integrated Project “AdaptInGr: Boosting the implementation of adaptation policy across Greece” (LIFE IPC/GR/000006)..
He is responsible for organizing, teaching, and supervising theses in the thematic area “Climate Change” within the Inter-University Postgraduate Program “Applied Policies and Techniques for Environmental Protection” of the University of West Attica. He also serves as Adjunct Teaching Staff in the Postgraduate Program “Environmental Design” of the School of Science and Technology at the Hellenic Open University.
He has participated in numerous technical and research projects focusing on: air pollutant inventories, liquid and solid waste, renewable energy sources, industrial risk assessment and land-use planning, the Greek natural gas transmission system, and more.
He has professional experience in various industries and acts as an evaluator for certification bodies of environmental and quality management systems for the Hellenic Accreditation System (ESYD).
He has authored over 70 publications in international scientific journals and conferences and has an h-index of 20.
