Transport Phenomena I: Fluid Mechanics
5098Mandatory
Course Description
The aim of the course is to cover the basic physical and mathematical background of fluid mechanics. The latter draws from first principles, the former from engineering applications. The course covers the following: Basic concepts and definitions. Properties of fluids. Kinematics. Forces in fluids. Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. Macroscopic flow analysis. Differential equations of flow. Boundary layer theory. Drag force. Introduction to turbulent flow.
The course includes a computational laboratory, designed to familiarize students with the approximate solution of realistic flow problems by means of computational fluid dynamics.
