Materials Decay and Protection
5281Selection - Engineering Sector
Course Description
The aim of the course is to educate students so that they can study:
- The tendency of a material (metal or porous material) to decay, in a certain environment (susceptibility), or a system to resist decay (durability)
- The attenuation of its mechanical properties / resistance and the effects of wear on it
- The most common forms of decay
- The speed of the decay
- The dependence of decay from environmental conditions
- Modifying the properties of the material and the parameters of the environment
- The study of the material-environment system to reduce the speed and tendency of decay
- The protection of materials at the industrial plants and structures scale
Course content includes topics on corrosion and protection of metallic materials and systems and the physico-chemistry of decay, maintenance of porous materials.
