Course Description
The course aims to provide the appropriate theoretical knowledge and the necessary computational-methodological tools in the following two broad areas: i) Determination of thermophysical properties of pure fluids and mixtures, ii) Phase Equilibrium, iii) Chemical Equilibrium.
Topics Included: Introduction. Intermolecular forces. Partial molar properties. Mixing properties. Excess properties. Vapor-liquid equilibrium at low pressures. Activity coefficients . Vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations at low pressures. Prediction of multi-component phase equilibrium from binary data. The UNIFAC activity coefficient model. Vapor-liquid equilibrium at high pressures. Chemical reaction equilibrium (equilibrium constant calculations, gas phase reaction conversion, liquid phase reaction calculation, reactions in heterogeneous systems, phase law, Duhem’s theorem, multiple reactions).
