Course Description

The course aims to introduce students to the field of chemistry and drug technology, the process of designing new drugs, the development of new formulations (drug delivery) and drug quality control. The course is tailored to the scientific fields of a Chemical Engineer, for whom the pharmaceutical industry is an important field of activity. At the same time, it provides essential knowledge for students interested in specializing in pharmaceutical chemistry and technology at a master's level. Introduction to Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic data. Classification of drugs into major categories according to their pharmacological action (anti-inflammatory, analgesic, narcotic, cardiological, etc.). Chemistry of selected drug classes. Introduction to drug design. In silico methodologies. Biomimetic chromatography. Quantitative Structure-Action Relationships (QSAR). Development of formulations. Introduction to drug quality control. Laboratory: Synthesis of a pharmaceutical active ingredient, preparation of a formulation. Use of biomimetic liquid chromatography in the rational design of new drugs.
